Sandy Samaniego

Kaaháni yóo xát duwasáakw – I am called Kaaháni
Dleit ḵáa x̱’éináx Sandy Samaniego – in English I am called Sandy Samaniego
Shangukwashaa áyá xát – I am a Shangukeidí woman

Born and raised in Juneau by a Tlingit mother and Filipino father, I spent most of my life
here with some intermittent years spent in Santa Fe, NM, Portland, OR, and Fairbanks.
I am retired from paid work now but my work life was rich and varied having held
executive director, chief administrator, teacher/counselor, and grantsmanship positions
in government, schools, and nonprofit arenas. Still, my favorite job remains at the
beginning when I did salmon cannery work. I am new to the JAHC Board and look
forward to becoming a valuable contributor.
