RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Juneau Arts & Culture Center, Centennial Hall & Convention Center Closed for Public Use Until March 30

In light of recent CDC and City & Borough of Juneau guidelines, the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council announces the temporary closure of both managed facilities – the Juneau Arts & Culture Center, and Centennial Hall & Convention Center. This closure is effective through March 30, at which time the Arts Council Board of Trustees will evaluate public health & safety for COVID-19 and the community need for each facility. The Arts Council Board and Staff are communicating closely with the City, and monitoring all state and national mandates regarding this situation.

Community building is central to the mission of the Arts Council and it recognizes the hardship that these closures bring. Arts Council staff will be working from home to maintain basic operations, thinking creatively of ways to continue to bring the arts to Juneau, and will be working with all rental clients for both facilities to reschedule events as soon as possible, as needed.

The Arts Council will be active on social media – sharing resources for artists, arts organizations, freelancers, and the community at large. Please look for updates on our Facebook page (@Juneau Arts & Humanities), Instagram profile(@juneau_arts_council), and website (www.jahc.org).

Please consider ways you may safely join in keeping our community well and adapting to this new situation. Immune-compromised, the elderly, artists, freelance workers, and small businesses are and will be disproportionately affected during this pandemic. Help us work to support our each other:

  • Stay home if you are sick,
  • Practice safe social distancing,
  • Consider supporting local artists and small businesses via eCommerce if you are able,
  • Consider donating the cost of an event ticket to any cancelled performing arts shows if you can.

This is a difficult time for all of us – organizations, businesses, and individuals. Together  we will get through it. Thank you.
