Virtually First Friday – May 2020

Welcome to the second Virtual First Friday of 2020! We have a lot to share with you this month, in Juneau and across the state! To view everything happening tonight, visit our First Friday page — where we have virtual exhibits, performances, and First Friday specials on food from our friends at restaurants around town.

To kick things off, one of our local artists Timi Johnson is sharing a new painting from a series called “Life, still” which she hopes to show at some point.

Artist statement: The collection of floral still-lifes I am working on travels the road from simplicity and gesture to density and abstraction.  The nature of a flower from bud to bloom to decay resonates for me during this time.

The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council has been working hard to keep supporting the over 150+ artists that work with us. Today for First Friday we are excited to announce the GRAND OPENING of our new Online Shop! Just in time for Mother’s Day — visit the JAHC Online Shop to find something special, all while supporting our local artists. PS: purchases over $25.00 get free in-town delivery!

In addition to the Online Shop, we are proud to present a virtual exhibit showcasing creative face masks from the creative minds of our community members. Featuring both functional and non-functional designs, these creations will make you look and think about protective gear differently. You can see the exhibit here. We’ve also posted the exhibit on our Arts Council Gallery page and it will be available through the month of May.

We hope you enjoy celebrating the arts community at home. We’re calling it the perfect date night in. Share what you’re doing for Virtual First Friday with your friends and tag us on social media! #JNUDateNightIn
