IMPROV FUNDAMENTALS

Step into the world of improv—whether it’s your very first time or you’re a seasoned performer eager to refresh your skills. This eight-week, high-energy course builds confidence onstage and off through playful exploration and practical technique.

You’ll learn to create instant, memorable characters, communicate seamlessly with scene partners and audiences, and bring improvised stories to life. Each session blends supportive instruction with plenty of time to experiment, laugh, and grow.

The course wraps up with a student showcase, giving you the chance to shine and celebrate everything you’ve learned.

Call for Artists: JAHC Art Labs Instructor Proposals

The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council (JAHC) is seeking proposals from teaching artists for our upcoming Art Labs class series. Art Labs are community-centered, skill-building creative workshops designed to support curiosity, connection, and access to the arts for people of all ages and experience levels.

We invite creators, makers, educators, and artists working in any medium or area of creative practice to submit class proposals for the upcoming season.

About Art Labs

Art Labs offer flexible learning opportunities and may be structured as:

  • One-time workshops
  • Multi-session classes
  • Multi-week or month-long series
  • Process-focused or exploratory sessions
  • Family-friendly workshops or youth-focused classes
  • Creative professional development or skill-building programs

Artists have the freedom to design a format and schedule that best fits their teaching style and subject matter.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome proposals that:

  • Are accessible to beginners or mixed skill levels
  • Encourage creativity, exploration, or expression
  • Offer a unique perspective, approach, or creative experience
  • Reflect diverse cultures, traditions, and lived experiences
  • Support lifelong learning and community engagement

Teaching experience is welcome but not required. JAHC supports new and emerging instructors.

Compensation

Instructors are paid a teaching fee based on the length and structure of the class. JAHC manages registration and marketing. Materials budgets may be available depending on the class.

How to Apply

Please submit:

  1. A brief instructor bio
  2. A class description (100–200 words)
  3. Proposed format and schedule (workshop, multi-week series, age range, etc.)
  4. Supply list or materials needs
  5. Preferred dates or availability
  6. Optional: 2–3 images of your work or examples of past teaching
