This exhibit was juried by Evon Zerbetz.

Juror’s Choice:
Robin Chapman - Bond
"I was drawn to the light and the framing that put all of the attention on the baby, with the presence of the mama in the photograph was the strongest in the baby's eyes."
Honorable Mention:
Alexandria Trudgen - Breakfast in Bed
"The strong presence and confidence of both the mom and the painter made this piece stand out to me. I found myself coming back to this work many times."
To the contributing artists:
I enjoyed getting to juror this exhibit for your group and community, It is an honor to review the work of fellow artists, the contributing artists; I gave careful consideration to each piece and appreciate your interpretation of the theme and the small details of your aesthetic, there was something about each work that delighted me, whether a posture in a photo or someone's use of bright colors. Additionally, I want to recognize the thought process that went into creating your works, through the feelings conveyed to me as a viewer. For those feelings, I thank you.

Please, one vote per person (vote for only one entry, and complete the poll only once). The poll closes on the last day of the show, September 30!

About this Exhibition

The Alaska Breastfeeds Statewide Juried Art Exhibition is the 2014 brainchild of the Fairbanks Breastfeeding Coalition (a local subsidiary of the Alaska Breastfeeding Coalition), designed to be an artistic celebration on the theme of breastfeeding. Since its inception in Fairbanks, the show has grown to include the entire state.  We welcome submissions from any area of the state of Alaska, in any artistic medium, and hope to see the show hosted in every corner of the state.  So far, the show has been hosted in the interior by the Fairbanks Breastfeeding Coalition and in Juneau by the Juneau Breastfeeding Alliance, the latter of which will again host the 2021 show.
If your local breastfeeding group would like to host the show in 2022 or another year in the future, please let us know! Sadly, due to COVID-19 and public health mandates, the 2020 Alaska Breastfeeds show was cancelled.  The 2021 show is generously hosted by the Juneau Breastfeeding Alliance via the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council state-of-the-art virtual gallery for the month of September, 2021.

Coalition Info

About ABC: The Alaska Breastfeeding Coalition (ABC) was formed in 1993 when a group of lactation advocates felt there was a need to provide educational offerings to local professionals. ABC held their first meeting in March at the Dimond Mall Library. The board of director members came from a variety of fields in order to give the coalition the widest possible experience base. In March 1994, ABC had a completed set of bylaws written and approved which led to achieving our non-profit 501(c)3 status.

Our first conference was held in 1993. ABC is proud to acknowledge that we have been able to sponsor an annual conference every year since. The conferences have been attended by a wide variety of disciplines. Many national and internationally known guest speakers have been able to share their expertise. In addition to the annual breastfeeding conferences, ABC has sponsored a variety of educational opportunities focusing on breastfeeding.

Currently ABC has an active board of directors with members throughout the state. We meet monthly throughout the year. The meetings last from 6:30 – 9 PM.  See the events page for meeting locations. Our accomplishments for the past year have been establishing a website and reviewing our strategic plan. Our goal is to continue to promote breastfeeding, provide access to education, and to be an advocate for all breastfeeding families.
